Meet your local host

Decoder of Burmese mysteries, based in Yangon

Myanmar never fully reveals itself at first glance. What I love is guiding travelers through this progressive discovery, between culture, encounters, and the unexpected moments that unfold on the ground.

Hervé

For over twenty years, Hervé has explored Myanmar with the same curiosity for its cultures, landscapes and on-the-ground realities. Passionate about this complex and fascinating country, he enjoys revealing its nuances through tailor-made trips designed to match each traveler's expectations. With the Gulliver team, he relies on extensive local experience, a solid network of guides and drivers, and a selection of accommodations regularly evaluated. In a country where travel requires flexibility, vigilance and field knowledge, Hervé places great importance on the quality of support and the ability to adapt. His approach prioritizes cultural discovery, encounters, well-structured itineraries and that element of mystery that gives Myanmar its particular depth.

Everything you need to know about Myanmar (Burma)

Our local experts share their knowledge to prepare your trip.

When to visit Myanmar?

The best time to travel to Myanmar extends from November to February: the air is dry, temperatures are pleasant on the central plain, and sunrises over Bagan are remarkably clear. March and April mark rising temperatures, sometimes exceeding 40°C in Mandalay, but this is also the time of the Thingyan festivals, when water flows through the streets and the atmosphere is unique. The monsoon, from June to September, transforms the rice paddies of southern Shan into emerald checkerboards; some roads become unpredictable, but it's a superb season for those who love changing light. For the Arakan coast or Ngapali, it's best to aim for winter, when the sea becomes calm again.

What budget should I plan for a trip to Myanmar?

The budget for a trip to Myanmar depends mainly on the pace you choose and the level of comfort you're looking for. Once there, life remains affordable: a meal at a Yangon street stall costs just a few euros, as does a train or long-distance bus journey. The expenses that weigh more heavily are domestic flights, sometimes necessary to reach Bagan or Inle Lake, English-speaking guides, and charming hotels in tourist areas. Plan on average between €110 and €180 per day and per person for a comfortable circuit, including transport and driver. A cruise on the Irrawaddy or a stay in a lodge in the Shan hills will naturally increase your budget.

Why organize your trip with a local agency in Myanmar?

Myanmar is not a destination you can improvise from a booking website. Infrastructure evolves rapidly, certain regions open and close depending on the context, and the best addresses never appear in guidebooks. Working with our English-speaking local agency based in Yangon means relying on teams who know the drivers, the boatmen of Inle Lake, the host families in Pa-O country, the monks of Sagaing. We tailor each itinerary to your pace and interests—photography, meditation, trekking, cuisine—and we remain available on the ground, in English, at every stage. It's also your guarantee that your trip directly benefits the artisans and villages you visit.

What to see on a trip through Burma?

A first trip to Myanmar often follows the thread of ancient capitals: Yangon and the Shwedagon Pagoda at twilight, Mandalay and its gold leaf workshops, the streets of Inwa explored by horse-drawn carriage, then the Bagan plain, over two thousand temples emerging from the morning mist. Inle Lake captivates with its Intha fishermen and floating gardens; beyond, the rotating markets of the Pa-O region or the trails from Kalaw to Indein offer another Myanmar, rural and understated. Those with more time venture to the golden rock of Kyaiktiyo, the beaches of Ngapali or the Mergui archipelago, still unspoiled.
